The Library of the Belvedere in Vienna
The Library of the Belvedere is a growing historical collection that now holds around 90,000 items (books, journals and new media) regarding the whole spectrum of the fine arts. Open to anyone interested in the arts, the non-circulating Library is part of the Research Center for Austrian Art at the Belvedere.
The particular strengths of the Library’s collection include:
Austrian art and art history from the Middle Ages to the present, with a special focus on “Art around 1900”
Catalogues of international exhibitions
Comprehensive collection of auction catalogues since the early 19th century
Literature on artists (catalogues, monographs, oeuvre catalogs)
Literature on museums, galleries and other institutions (annual reports, collection catalogues, museum guides)
Literature on the history of the Belvedere
Auxiliary and secondary literature (lexica, publications on the theory of art)
Large collection of journals
The library aims at collecting comprehensively and cataloging all the relevant literature for the Museum.Its holdings are indexed in the online database Biblioteca 2000 (BOND), which includes approximately 45,000 items at present. A retrospective cataloging project of the older literature is under way.
